App Developer: Jacob Golson

Jacob Golson is a casual three-weapon fencer, and the developer of Super Fencing System. Starting fencing at age 9, Jacob fenced foil for Massachusetts’ Concord-Carlisle High School from 2012 to 2016, coached by David Blake of Prise De Fer Fencing Club. Jacob then attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado for undergraduate and graduate studies from 2016 to 2022. At Mines, he served as president and instructor of Mines Fencing Club, where he helped introduce numerous college students to the sport. Jacob began developing SFS in May 2023, shortly after graduating from Mines with a bachelor’s and master’s in mechanical and additive engineering. When not tinkering with SFS, Jacob is a Hypervelocity Test Engineer at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

App Advisor: Balazs Konya

Balazs Konya is a Hungarian sabre fencing enthusiast living in Lund, Sweden. He trained and competed in sabre fencing while living in Hungary up until his university studies. After relocating to Sweden for postdoctoral studies at Lund University, he picked up fencing again and won several Swedish sabre fencing championship medals.

Balazs started coaching sabre after his daughter took up the sport. Starting in 2016, Balazs established a very successful youth saber program in Lund. Fencers from his youth sabre group have won numerous medals at Swedish and Nordic championships, and his daughter went on to become a European Champion and World Championship bronze medalist as a member of the Hungarian junior sabre national team.

A key factor in Balazs Konya’s ability to develop a world-class youth sabre fencer in Sweden has been his intensive use of video review systems during training sessions and at competitions. As a scientist with a PhD in theoretical physics who currently works as a senior researcher at Lund University, Balazs has always been deeply interested in integrating technology with fencing, constantly experimenting to find innovative ways to combine his two passions.
